70mm Summer Picks

70mm Summer Picks

It's summer time, and it's hot. And it's one of our favorite times of the year to return to those classics that demand a rewatch. Here at 70mm the only thing we love as much as a first time viewing is the Nth rewatch of our favorites. I can still remember (this is proto) my whole family swirling around the house, packing suitcases and coolers, finding that missing bathing suit (etc.) trying to leave for a weekend at the Jersey shore while I blissfully sat on the couch and watched Pirates of the Caribbean. It might not get any better. The ocean, the pool, sunburn, getting eaten by a fish. The  ̶A̶m̶e̶r̶i̶c̶a̶n̶  Worldwide Dream.
So here are some of 70mms favorite summer rewatches!

1. Independence Day (1996)

Certified banger forever and always, aged like a fine wine, pairs well with Independence
Ok the 2 movie set is the best option, get it on blu-ray here.

2. Jaws (1975)

We need a bigger TV. Seriously imagine this on an OLED, I'm sweating. Roy Scheider's shorts, I'm sweating. Nothing gets you ready for the beach quite like images of being maimed by Brucey.
Get Jaws on 4K here.

3. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

'Ello Paupet (sp? whatever). Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow was untouchable. Is untouchable? People want to rewrite history but if you were there, you know.
Get Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl on 4K here.

4. The Sandlot (1993)

The great american pass time, smores. Heroes are remembered, but legends never die. The amount of times I imagined the visage of Babe Ruth appearing in my own bedroom. We need to go back.
Get The Sandlot on blu-ray here.

5. Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

Some call it the last movie ever made. We pitched the idea to Paramount to just release this every summer in the theater, but they haven't returned our calls. Everyone's loss. Truly a modern classic.
Get both top guns on 4K here.

6. Indiana Jones Trilogy

It's so crazy that they never made anymore of these after the original trilogy. Just a gold mine right? Right? Anyway we will always have these classics to return to.
Get the Indiana Jones Trilogy (+ some other movie?) on 4K here.
